VE SSV series 1
Hey, sorry if this has already got a thread first time poster.
So I have a 08 VE SSV 6sp manual I was driving today, I was in 5th and suddenly I heard a horrible grinding noise took my foot off the accelerator put it back on and it just reved as if it were in neutral. Pulled over got my mate to come have a look, he took it for a drive (didn’t go past 4th gear) said it should be okay I continued to drive, shifted into 5th and again it was like it was in neutral with a horrible rattle so I went into 6th that’s when I noticed 6th does the same thing.
Do I need a new gear box ?

When did you have the auto last serviced properly?

Seems like it’s a somewhat common problem with them. I do remember a rebuild video on YouTube mentioning one time that this shaft is the part you will wreck if you just accelerate hard in 6th gear. He said 6th is only a cruising gear and if you need to accelerate don’t just hammer the accelerator, shift it down a gear or two.

I'm not surprised because sixth is too tall in these with 3.45s. I have 3.9s and its ok. Probably even get away with 4.1s in manual VE Series I.

I have been told it's a 6060, but I think that is wrong and 2008 VE still has the T56. According to Mal Wood the only way to truly know is by checking the TUIT number as there are about 14 variations of the 6060 that were used by Holden in the VE and VF.
