The only thing extremist here is this thread. Could you not post about cars just once Raj? Oh wait, that won't incite uninformed opinions and pointless negativity about matters that are spoon fed to us via media outlets who we have long recognised as crafters of weak minded thinking.

To be honest I'm surprised this thread isn't locked when the opening post contains "Does anyone want to continue to make the argument that there's nothing wrong with Islam?" and comparisons to Nazi Germany.

So is this about murderous extremists or Islam bashing?

The fact is you couldn't possibly know any more than any other member of the public. We're all naive and that's fine, I'm happy to admit it. It beats being a pompous, arrogant, inciteful bigot.

Why am I not surprised you live in Canberra?

Information I am being fed is coming from a member of the SAS and an AFP member, let's just say that what the media is reporting is a lot less than what is actually going on. Why are people not allowed to discuss these issues? Why are people denigrated for wanting to know what the hell these people are doing? Very grateful our police force and security forces are ahead of these scoundrels.

All good though, I understand there are many "Useful Idiots" I just hope it is a useful idiot who suffers from these extremists rather than "a pompous, arrogant, inciteful bigot."

Does anyone else notice the irony with the topic of this thread and Minux's avatar?

    ya mum!

Ari is a little bit special... He doesn't get it. Thinks it's all a joke. I wonder if he'll be laughing if it's him or someone he loves that's randomly targeted for a public beheading.

Either they're bullshitting you or in serious violation of their clearances, I personally hope you're just full of ****. There's a reason why this information is bound by the 'need to know' principle. It's disappointing to hear that there are employees of the Commonwealth willing to not only risk their jobs and freedom but more importantly the security of this nation simply to show off to their friends by not taking their oath seriously.

They're not denigrated for wanting to know, they're denigrated for assuming to know.

PS - What's living in Canberra got to do with anything?

I would find it hard to believe a member of the SAS would be so forth coming with information .

Just want to focus on the attack that was planned for a moment.

The attack was supposed to happen in the middle of Martin Place in the Sydney CBD. I think there was a very deliberate motive to this other than to kill someone.

Do you think people would have stood back and watched it? Or do you think people would have stood up and fought had they have seen someone on their knees with a machete looming?

Could these people have been trying to incite a cultural divide in Sydney?

The tensions there are already very high. Had people of seen this in their own backyard, I think it would have not only got people in the immediate area to rally together and storm these guys and hold them down etc but it wouldve created another "Cronulla" type atmosphere. Had this attack taken place, people would be frightened everytime they saw a person of Middle Eastern appearance. It would have been absolute paranoir within the community. There would be Cronullaesque attacks and people having to hide indoors. So far all these attacks have been overseas. But to have one on home soil is a totally different pot of beans.

Maybe Im giving these guys to much credit, but I think there was more to this than simply killing someone. Theyre taking advantage of the fear and the natural suspicions of people. I think they wanted to do it publicly and in our own backyard to cause a massive cultural divide. Even the placid Muslims would be on the outs with Australia society and would be forced into the arms of the extremists.

Had they of actually succeeded, I think that would be it. We would be gearing troops for deployment.

I would say your bang on there. The biggest disservice we do is thinking they are some backwards cave tribe, they understand social media and impact it has now days. This would of turned into a massive **** storm ripping the area apart.

Actually neither bullshitting or in violation of any clearances. Not exactly showing off either, but you can assume to know what people are and are not allowed to pass on etc. I wont argue with you about it.

All take their oath seriously, one has now done around 11 operations abroad (yep very jealous), don't think he is worried about "showing off".
