So thanks to Woteva I decided to have a bit of a play tonight. I managed to pull the trim off mine and then when I was there I thought hmmmm, might be fairly easy to get the frame trim off as well. Yep it was fairly straightforward. The one from the spare door was pretty good. I wouldn't say it was perfect but it's pretty close, and with some compound on a rag it's come nice.
I had a good look at the other door trim with the scratches and they were down to the metal and no way were going to buff out. The spare trim with the funny name had one smaller scratch on the edge, which I have etched and blacked with a tiny brush. I will see how it comes out when it shrinks back and I give it a light rub with some 1500 or 2000.
I'm now looking at the door and wondering if the panel beater can run a line of clear with a fine brush on the one small scratch near the lever and then just block and buff. If he can I'd say I could likely save $250, on the $450 quote, for the door repair. I will try and head out there after work if he doesn’t mind hanging around until 5.30 one day.
