removed water pump this morning, sheared on of the small 4 bolts holding the pump housing:bang: not a good start. no matter took me a good hr to scrape all the old gasket off the timing cover. the old pump shows signs of leaking water so that explains my very slight usage of coolant:) thats better then a intake gasket as i'd originally though. used some VHT spray on copper gasket adhesive and fitted the pump, then i discover that my tube of gasket goo has gone of completly off so now i'm waiting on the missus to get home so i can go and get some:bang:

it's been suggested that i just remove the gear from tha ballance chaft and run without it. might be a good idea to try

if your going to remove gear you might aswell take it out you may be able to remove it without taking the inlet manifold off. I hate taking timing cover of though theyre a pain to do in a car

i figure i'll take out the radiator or at the very least the thermo fan to give myself room to work. isn't the front bearing in the ballance shaft oil feed?

ok, new JP double row timing chain is sitting in the garage. tomorrow the timing cover and inlet manifold gaskets arrive so it looks like the balance shaft is coming out. now i need to find out if i also remove the timing chain tensioner as i believe they are only required with the single row timing chain.

The First timing cover i did was on my old White VN and i took the radiator out and tried to pull it off and it came off real quick and hit both arms on the car had to huge bruises on my arms for weeks lol,

With the double row chain i think you would need a tensioner to suit it the normal one is proberbly rooted anyway.

Your right no need for tensoioner on a double row chain

gaskets just arrived by courier. their permaseal gaskets that i've not seen before. the intake manifold gaskets are plastic (approx 4mm thick) with rubber inlay on each side to seal the gaskets. i wonder if these are re-usable? or if i need to use sealant on em? they look like they act as a insulator also? anybody know about these?

Those are the normal gaskets for the V6, even if you go to Holden and get some that's what they give you. As for reusable I have used them to take a manifold off twice within a couple of weeks time and they were OK :). Not sure about after a longer time than that
