Clicking ecu data presents the same error.The battery/charger does not matter for this instance because you are not programming with vci, you are saving to usb.
It sounds like the vxdiag is not working properly with sps.
When you load into sps make sure you select the correct vehicle make, year and model.
Once you have it all loaded make sure the vin in the bottom righthand side of the window is correct and also try click ecu data on the righthand side and see if it contains information like the vin etc.
