Since you supplied the part he could say too bad. If i was approaching the bloke i would drop by his workshop and act like you don't know where the oil is leaking from. Say something like hey mate there seems to be oil leaking not sure why since you fitted a new seal. Don't go in guns blazing expecting him to wear it, don't let him get on the defensive even if it is his fault. Be calm and see if he will be sympathetic to your case.
Yeah he is a nice guy so I'm hoping that he will be sympathetic towards me. I don't want go and accuse him of anything but I also don't want him to say that its a new leak so here's another $300 invoice to repair it!!

Get a couple of cans of degreaser and degrease the whole area, let it dry, then run the engine until the oil appears.
That way you will be absolutely certain it is, or is not, the balancer.
Check the power steer pump as well.
Usually when the balancer seal is leaking the oil will throw to both sides of the engine bay, is it doing this ?

I'd be going back to the mechanic and just query about where the leak might be coming from....You never know, he might find the u-beaut seal you supplied might be the cause and he might fit it as a gesture of good will....But if he wants to charge, don't be surprised....Generally things like this are only labour warranted if they supply the part

Based on the video it's definitely coming from behind the harmonic balancer. I degreased everything and isolated it to the balancer.

Yeah that what I was told by someone else as well. I hope he won't go down that path. Really annoying if the seal is faulty. It's genuine Holden seal too.

Genuine Holden parts are supposed to have a 12 month warranty from memory.
Hope it wasn't 300 just for labour to do that seal :$

Lol! He said 2hrs worth of labour due to so was about $240. Yes if it's a faulty seal I will be definitely going back to them, but what to do about the labour cost? Holden wouldn't want a bar of if. But then again what if the installation wasn't done properly? Is there a way to tell? I guess I'll find out. So annoying and frustrating and potentially expensive....

Did he apply sealant along keyway channel before replacing balancer?

No idea I'll ask him when I go back tomorrow. He didn't replace balancer just the crank seal behind the balancer.
