The biggest problem I find with people changing their own oil it they do not get the oil up to operating temperature and try to drain cold oil. Draining a car while it is cold will leave quite a bit in the engine and I have done it to prove it to people.
I always get car up to temp (20 - 30 minutes drive) and I drain while hot and on the VE with the drain plug on the side of the sump I jack the drivers side up to get all the oil out and mine always takes 6.6 - 6.7 litres to get to full mark.
How much does it leave in there? Just curious

Depending on the car or bike you are doing it on i can be up to a quart or just under a litre.
I have never done it cold on a VE so could not give you specific measurement for one

I’m happy to leave a bit in there over burning my pretty hands.
