Pete wouldn't' OP's primary issue be from RHS main foul air PCB connection post TB?
"OP found the pcv valve changed it all done"
In this case seems pcv valve was faulty.

The back flow via the clean air side is what gunks up TB and IAC's and causes all those little troubles you see with old high mileage engines.....

I understand the 5% that may gunk up from least resistance pre-TB with WOT / low MAP but surely it’s the 95% of gunk that comes through the RHS main PCV directly into the plenum that gunks / cokes up the valves in a SIDI?
Sort of lopsidedness that causes RHS ahead to discolour with varnish - poor PCV caused by the restrictive on the foul side.
Anyways if it were mine I’d sort that out first.

Yes, the majority goes through the dirty side but up until recently the clean side has been fairly much ignored. Definitely do the dirty side first but now there are off the shelf options for the clean side too.

A working factory air oil separator on port injection is no drama in my experience.
Few owners realise that the VE SS had a faulty AOS design (which meant the LHS rocker cover) on Series I was rectified a few months after release of Series II L77, in Feb 2011. So the prevailing internet (US) evidence is that all G8s whether L76 or LS3 needs a dodgy DIY draining catch can to empty the poor stock AOS mess.
However the LS3 has never had the issue, and the L77 was fixed with a recall for early Series II.
Being ethanol port injected, a little bit of upper valve lube doesn’t hurt.
So the series 1 L98 is affected? I only ask as I have one and my local mechanic/ LS performance engine builder who is well respected here in NZ told me not to bother with a catch can

The L98 has a different PCV system, has an LS2 valley plate

Underneath is an air oil separator

So no problem with L98 or LS3.

VEGTS BUILT BLOWN E85
wait till u run boost... on my LS2 i have the drivers rocker venting and passenger side had a vent that was sealed from factory so i took the rubber piece off and drilled it out and run a vent hose to it, i also have the crank venting to a catch can, if i put vacuum to it in any way it just sucks oil thru, also had a couple valve stem seals pop up which i never noticed for quite some time then u could see the cylinders burning extra oil when i had a peek inside swapped them over now all good, if u have ever had bad back fires check your valve steam seals and injector tips...
