I don't know electronically but looks much the same and the VE circuit board fits and works in the VF housing.
Ahh yeah okay, so you’re saying you fixed the issue by swapping fr the vf board to the ve? That’s a shame as I’m pretty sure it is the be one haha

I've a done a few black roof lining conversions in VF's using black VE interior light assemblies and they worked fine with LED bulbs. It wasn't until I fitted LED map reading bulbs in a cream VF assembly and they wouldn't switch off. I then plugged a black VE assembly in, and they worked fine. Swapping the circuit boards to retain the cream VF housing has fixed that issue for me twice. It seems the VE circuit board is different in some way electronically and doesn't have the VF load sensitivity.

I’ve done a search and can’t find the answer to this question.

I have a 2014 Calais V with front and rear roof reading lamps (old school incandescent bulbs, T10 / W5W wedge).

I replaced both front and rear dome lamps and they work fine. But when I replace the four reading lamps, only the drivers side (RHF and RHR) lamps will work. Passenger side lamps don’t work, or stay on (won’t turn off with button). I’ve tried different bulbs including ones I know work, so it’s not dodgy bulbs or wrong polarity. I’ve tried three different styles/brands of LED’s but they all do the same thing.

I’ve pulled out both front and rear lamp assemblies and tested them for shorts but can’t find anything wrong. When I put the old incandescent bulbs back in they work perfectly so it’s not the wiring either inside or outside of the units.

Are there special bulbs I need to use?
I know on VY-VZ we have to use a reverse polarity LED bulb on the map lights.

Then again, when I installed LED in the VE which is near on the same, I had no issues.

I installed non polarity LED's in the map lights in my VZ.

non polar or "bi polar" leds are not that uncommon, they do it one of 2 ways.
one way is to have 2 diodes with the anode and cathode in opposite directions.
the other way is a bridge rectifier.

if you can change the polarity by flipping the bulb in the socket then you dont need those types of led, they will still work though.
