Hi Guys,

Well, some ******** ran straight up the back of my 10 week old SV6 at at least 60kms/hr and as one would expect it's made a mess. The force was so hard it bent the crap out of my 2100kg towbar.

So far it seems both my very young kids and myself are OK however i do have a sore neck from the jolt.

Obviously i have reported the incident to Police and submitted a claim with my Insurer, luckily the other driver is with the same Insurer so this helps but i wonder if anyone could tell me if it will be written off.

Damage -
Rear Bumper
Rear Boot
Rear Right Panel
Reverse Sensors
AllinTowbar
Rear Passenger Door hits the body when closing
Drivers Door hits the body when closing

Here are some pics.

The doors do open and shut still but whack the body quite hard in the process. I haven't been game enough to open the boot as it won't likely close.

sorry i just read the bottom where it said they don't close. id say its 50/50 write off chance, to be honest it doesn't look too bad in the photos, but depending on chassis damage you wont know until they very nice accessor makes his call.

Yes, the car did a great job absorbing the crash. Most importantly the car seats both my 19mth Girl and my 4yo Boy were in did there job well and protected my precious little ones. The towbar took a massive hit as can be seen but i am happy that the Commodore absorbed most of the impact. No, no airbags deployed but the other car is a guaranteed write off, the whole front was totalled.

geeeez.. makes you wanna cry! I'd say with enough of a crunch that the doors don't close, then you're a good chance of a write off. Fingers crossed! I imagine your insurer will replace a written off car if under 1 year old. Here's hoping! Good to hear you and your family are ok.
Good luck!

lucky you had a tow bar i say,
and i would say they will repair it, normally if the damage is greater than 75% of the cars/insured value they will write it off.

I have RAA Insurance (Full Comprehensive) and the policy states if your car is written off within the first 2 years it will be replaced with a new one of similar make and specification.
