VT series 1 V8 uses the same bearing as the V6. The same bearing is used from VC I believe. I know it's the same back to VR.

VB to VK ish had 2 different diametre bearings/C.V....

The small one was around the 90 MM and the larger was around 100MM, which was also used upto VN...I'm not sure after VN but wouldn't surprise me if was used in the later models...

The earlier models with the C.V, or bearing are quite often referred to as 6 cyl and V8....However I have noticed through out time, that some tailshafts fitted behind V8's have the smaller bearing/C.V, which have been classed as 6 cyl one, .....

So I always give the advise of measuring the diametre so you do get the correct one

So a little bit of trivia... :) :)

Are you referring to the CV or bearing. When I bought my gen bearing I'm sure the part number was same right back to VC. The CV I wouldn't know as I've only replaced the centre bearing.

It does make sense the CV is different throughout the models and between 6 & 8s.

Hey I have a Holden Commodore series 1 VT with a 5 L manual Getrag gearbox, My rubber coupling on the tail shaft basically keeps exploding I’ve been told because I don’t have a centring bush does anyone have a diagram of what it looks like and where exactly it goes, an does anyone know where I can buy a new coupling an centring bush from. I tried a few parts shops around townsville, I’ve been told you can only buy them as genuine parts, I tried Holden they said there’s none in Australia. I have seen a few online but They’re not for a V8. if I new the dimensions of the bush I could get one made. Any ideas…

Who told you you need a centering bush, the people who have been replacing the coupling or a mate ??
Whoever it was ask them where it goes.
Or give Adrian a call at Ados in Townsville 0412645664 during work hours and take it to him for a looksee.

The C.V is the piece that has the 6 allen key headed bolts holding the front section to the rear section....The C.V is the piece that generally stuffs up and is quite often called the centre bearing.....I found this out by mistake when I bought a centre bearing thinking it was that piece with the 6 allen key headed bolts holding it in place....

About 2 years ago, I had my tailshaft redone by Hardi Spicer....I'm not sure what brand they used, but after stuffing 3 C.V's in 4 years, it was finally fixed, so definately not complaining here....oh with the exception of the bill, but no one likes coughing up hard earned money...:) :)

I thought you meant the CV. You are the only person I've heard call the CV the centre bearing, That’s why I get confused. When I bought my gen bearing it was called the centre bearing. Kmart called it a centre bearing, as did the two places who fitted one for me.

I bought a McKay one and it was rubbish, it flopped around like a bastard. The trans tech said my centre bearing should not be like that. A week or two later brand new bearing blew out and left me stranded. I had no choice but to drive 15km home at walking pace as there was no way to call a tow truck. It smashed the tailshaft so bad I had to replace it. I bought a gen bearing and two new unis. I had that done by a bloke I'd used for AC repairs and it was fine three or so years later. Never again will I use a non gen bearing in a tailshaft.

Ok I’m pretty sure it’s a centring bush that I need I’m pretty sure the centring bush goes onto the end tail shaft here are some pics
1 is what’s left of the rubber coupling
2 Is the rubber coupling end of tail shaft where the centring bush sits
3 This is the end of the gearbox does anyone know what the name of that bush is called

No I’m referring to the centring bush which sits on the end of the tail shaft inside the rubber coupling to keep it centred
