I had a Ford 289 v8 back in the 80's You could put a rebuild kit in them. Are you able to do the same with Holden v8 w/ pumps?

I know back in the day you could definitely get rebuild kits for the 308 pumps and these are the same as the old 308 big bearing water pumps.

Be careful you don't Jinx it now ? ;););)

Not a major problem is if does, I have a 10 year old GMB that feels smooth and tight and a new Gates that I decided not to fit as it's a Chinese Gates.

What was the gremlin? Overheating?

I was chasing a belt squeel, I actually thought the pump was running up tight. Changed the thermostat because it was running to cool but also in the warmer weather the temps were moving around a bit more than last year so I wanted to be sure the system was mechanically sound before I started looking at other avenues. Weather has also been warmer than usual so that may be influencing things a bit.

GMB's used to be the original and the best, but not so it seems now. Seen plenty of failed Chinese made GMB's nowadays. I think you've had one of those in the past haven't you ?

FWIW when the pump failed on my LS1, I bought a new one from Holden direct. It has lasted easily 5 years and is still going.

I find that with parts that do have a limited lifetime, 99% of the time the gen part will well outlast anything aftermarket.

This is true but if you go to repco and get ripped a new one (on the price) I bet that water pump will still be coming from china!
