VF Black Holden Lion badges?

Correct, only thing in the vf range I can think of that came with black badges but isn't 'Holden' was the HSV 'SV Black'

I painted my own a few years back and they still look good. A light sand with fine sand paper and hit them with a couple of coats of black Tamiya model paint then a coat of clear.

I have a few badges that I can’t get as black and will need to paint them. I’ll use this method

Some Tamiya paints are available in small rattle cans.

Yep, I just used a little rattle can of gloss black.
