Bought this car a few years ago after I smashed my VN wagon 5spd. Took the gearbox and pedal box out of that before I sold it for scrap.

Original plan was just to drop the T5 behind the ecotec, but the Ecotec was getting tired and an L67 came up at a local wreckers, so i decided to change the motor and gear box all at once.

Pedal Box

Ecotec out:

L67 in:

The L67 was completely stock except a smaller pulley, and full exhaust system consisting of pacemaker extractors, twin 2 1/4" Cats, into single 3" system.

I was extremely pleased with the combination, plenty of torque, and the manual made it very fun to drive, unfornately it did have a slight metallic noise since

installing, and the oil pressure light flickered from time to time, needless to say i knew the wrecker had sold me a bit of a dud, I continued driving it knowing it

was ticking timebomb until i bought a new daily, then took it off the road for a complete rebuild :)

Engine out again:

It was determined the motor had spun 2 cam bearings, one of which had been chewed up and was lying in the sump

Didnt go too crazy on the engine build, just a nice reliable daily, with a bit more go than stock.

Rebuild consisted off

-Balanced crank and weight matched rods

-Factory pistons with Mahli rings

-ACL Comp Main, Bigend, and Cam Bearings

-ARP Main, and Headstuds

-ARP Bigend Bolts

-Oil gallery mods

-XP hot Cam

-105 lb valve springs

-Delete balance shaft

-Rollmaster double row timing chain

-Manly retainers

-Vetron valve stem seals

-Mace 1.7 Rockers

-Extensively ported Heads and 6 angle valve grind

-Ported LIM, Blower housing, and U-bend

-Mace 75mm throttle body

-Powerbond 8 rib overdrive harmonic balancer

Currently up to the wiring and sending the extractors away for HPC coating :)

Im using the original VS Auto PCM which has been modified (added manual components to read VSS) and my custom memcal

Original Ecotec Engine harness which im currently removing all auto wiring from, extending/shortening some wires and incorporating some extra wiring for my gauges,

speedo corrector and shift light.

I caught the bug after my first drive, huge difference from auto v6, torque is amazing.

Cheers mate, once i get it running (damn wet weather holding me up!) ive got to change the diff as it was whining fairly bad before the motor came out again, then after its registered ill get onto the suspension, brakes and interior.

I'll be running 16" Walkinshaws, Pedders touring springs (cant go too low) rebush front and rear and VE brake upgrade.

unsure with interior, might just go with some new bucket seats, and replace some trims as mould is stacking to attack the inside from all wet weather and no garage :(
