Hi
I was given a alternater a few years ago.

I stripped it down, polished & plated it.

Reassembled it, missed a small mica washer. That was all that was left after rebuilding it, with new bearings & a regulator.

On the oem workshop manual, there is a pic of all the parts with the part names. That small mica washer isn't listed.
There is a mica washer listed 16. But that isn't the one. Its smaller than that.

Back to the alternater, fitted up to to my mockup car (another vt v6). FItted it. put the multi meter on it. Only 12.6 volts?
Fitted alternater first then a fresh battery. When l connected the the neg. terminal, large spark ( huh, what the f#ck?).
Connected again, no spark at all. Check the cluster, yes the odo was showing. Started in engineering mode. Voltage was only just over 12 volts with the MM.
By now the alternator was starting to smoke. Turned motor off & disconnected the battery terminals.

Put the original alternater back in & connected the battery. 14 volts & no smoke.

I've taken a pic to show both alternaters. Is the polished & chrome plated one from Supercharged v6?

What?!
If I was going to want to know about a mystery alternator, you would be the person I would ask. How does anybody else stand a chance of knowing?

I can see that they are different. Take notice where the regulator is to the b terminal & the mounting holes
Edited: Correction

I was looking at the rear of them,

Thats interesting, as they are listed in the compatibility charts of the sellers as they can fit both.

One of yours is from a L36 and/or L67

Going by your parts image,
If the front of the Alternator was rotated 120deg,
that would be the difference for mounting. [as they would be a in a different position]

One of your is not from a L36 or L67 Alternator!
The chrome one was given to me few years ago (wasn't chrome when was given to me). I have had it on my commodore few years ago. It was noisey, so took it back of. Kind of remember that it didn't exactly the same as mine.

The other one is of my vt v6 mock up car. Its the same as the one that is fitted to my car.

The mounting places are the same, the connections are in differnt places.

Yes m8, i ment the mounting holes for alt
If you put an Ecotec alt on a l67 the wiring plug is at the bottom facing the wrong direction

Thats what I meant, the VY L67 have the Regulator pointing to the side over the Rocker cover,

If I remember correctly, the VT & VX had the regulator pointing down, and is a PITA to get out to replace.
