You will need plastic primer on that. Rattle can one will be fine. Be careful you don't get fish eye using rattle can paint. I have the gear to paint with so try to not use rattle can unless I really can't be bothered setting up the gun and mixing paint. If it’s cold where you're painting a hair-dryer on low air but on warm blowing over while you spray helps stop fish eye. Warming the cans can help too but don't use too hotter water or you will wreck the can and it will leak when you press the nozzle.

I recall reading a trick used by others when using spray cans. They said to let off a small amount of paint (say 20%? So the can has only 80%?). Then put the can into hot water. That way you get the good results from a hot can, without the risks associated from heating it too much and over pressurising it. It’s only something I read, but not my firsthand experience.

I put a 1/2 full can in the laundry sink and when I used it, it was buggard the spot below the nozzle blew out and even when cold it was no good.

Finally put the new brake pads in the MX5

It took longer to Jack up the car and put the stands under it than actually changing the pads

I'm loving my new floor jack though, super low, lifts really high really quick, and lowers smooth as silk

Only issue was one of the rear caliper pistons was tight to press in, I'm tossing up on either doing a kit on all the calipers, or just buy new calipers, as I can get shiny new stock DBA (PBR) calipers for around $150 each

I'm heavily leaning towards the easy way out of shiny new calipers, basically the amount of time spent rebuilding and cleaning the old ones outweigh the cost of new items

Either way I will pull the pin tomorrow

Today I learnt that removing vinyl adhesive is significantly harder on the back than removing crusty old vinyl.

Tomorrow I plan on learning how out of flat my bonnet is, how much adhesive I missed tonight and how many side quests I can embark on instead of getting this thing painted and back on the car.

A heat gun and wax and grease remover is your friend

… or dropped off at 9:00, done by 10:00 and parked up until 5:30. “I’ll check. It’s just done! It took us all day“.
I hope you're not serious? It takes longer than that to remove the seats.

The burns on my knuckles disagree. Nah the heat gun was good. The vinyl really wanted a whole lot of heat to let go and I had to be mindful not to warp the bonnet.

I had a few ppl recommend wax and grease remover. I think I need to emphasise the fact that this car has not been parked in a shed anywhere near enough over the last decade or so since the bonnet got wrapped.

I tried 86% ethanol heads, wax and grease remover, terps, metho, thinners, maf cleaner, degreaser, cooking oil, engine oil, cutting oil and vinegar.. hell I actually even tried etch primer.
None of them helped and all had a similar result which was basically just that scraping became marginally easier briefly.

I eventually went and got adhesive remover which got most of the work done after about 5 applications.

I’m getting a Lukey MagnaFlow 7” muffler put on my VZ SS tomorrow, anyone have any experiences with this muffler at all? System is a SS twin 2.5”, it’s loud as **** & drone is shocking, hoping this helps quieten it down a bit & rid the drone.

Fit the biggest resonator in the mid pipe, and the biggest rear box that you can fit

If ground clearance is a issue look at the oval design for the resonators

You need large bodied parts with lots of volume

Are you still running cats?, if not fit the biggest bodied 200 cell (at a minimum) cats that fit

You can still make good power and have a nice sounding, drone free exhaust if you choose the right parts

I run 1 7/8 headers, 200 cell cats to 3" Y pipe to a 4" single with the biggest resonator that fitted in the mid pipe, to a Varex 4" rear box, no drone at any speed, sounds good with the Varex open, and as quiet as stock with it closed

The Varex is great for leaving or returning home late at night, keeps the neighbours happy

A really loud, droney, smelly exhaust is the last thing you want on a street car for multiple reasons
