As above, what would it take to get higher speed limits in Australia?
Why does Australia have such draconian speed limit enforcement, when other countries with much more lax speed enforcement have less fatalities?

If you look at road death stats overseas your argument is flawed.

Australia: 1,131
France: 3,585
Germany: 3,327
Poland: 3698
Russia: 16,981
Italy: 3,333
UK: 2,206
USA: 45,404
Papua New Guinea: 1,232
Thailand: 22,491
Saudia Arabia: 7,898

..... the list goes on!

True although Australian population is small and relatively spread out.

Re. the OPs question, I think the chance of an increased speed limits is small to none. Benefit is minor, downsides many (not least pollution), so political suicide.

Maybe when all cars are autonomous, the robot overlords will be allowed to go faster.

We'd have to get rid of this revenue collecting goverments first and piss off a lot of low performance drivers that think they own the road or teach them what keep left unless overtaking means. It wont happen as our goverments are addicted to fining the people .

India > 132,000 .............. it has a huge population of 1.4B, but look at the roads and how they drive there, maybe 132,000 is a good result.

Those numbers need to be shown as a % of population and/or vehicle movements to support your case.

Having better driver training would probably help. There are a lot of drivers out on the roads that shouldn't have licences....
