I've converted my VR to gas over six month ago (mixer system). My gas tank has a usable capacity of about 50 litres. Doing mostly city driving I got around 280km out of a tank (until it was completely empty). Mostly highway driving I got between 400-450km. I did find my gas gauge wasn't always...

If it's a VR Series 2 (with the speed alert) try holding down the speed up / speed down buttons (at the same time) as you start your car. This should switch it to a digital speedo. If this works.. means your cluster is receiving a signal and passing it on to the speed alert unit. Otherwise...

I got my VR put onto gas a few months back and have never had a backfire. I was told to use normal spark plugs (not 'gas' plugs). I'm not sure if this would make any difference with the back fires... but meant to run well on both petrol and gas.

The place I took my VR for an LPG conversion [ezygas] (car done done about 400,000km) put flash lube system in (bottle of flash lube, connects to one of the vacuum hoses on the throttle body) to help reduce the wear on the valves.

Did you find out what the problem was? I thought the LPG system read the oxy sensor input (to adjust the mixture) but sends a dummy value to the petrol ECU... I could be wrong though.

Bought my '94 VRII for $3,800 at an auction in 2004. It had done 360,000km. Since (as I've had to replace the entire dash cluster) I estimate it's done about 400,000km to date. Since I've had it replaced tyres, harmonic balancer, alternator voltage regulator, change oil + filter every 6 months...

I think the guage must have been a bit optimistic while it showed it was at around 50% capacity. I'm averaging 250km/tank city driving.... I did a bit of highway a few weeks back and managed to get around 320km. Still pretty happy :)

Are you using a USB or serial connector ?

Hi mate, The conversion was $2300. In all honesty, I can't find any difference in power! I'm surprised it's even running smoother

Just an update on this... I've gone ahead and done the conversion through ezygas.. so far I've done 115km and only just hit 3/4 of a tank left (gas), city driving only. So I should get around 450km. The same sort of driving on petrol I was averaging 330-350km (had previously changed spark plugs...

Are you running on gas btw? Maybe try cleaning your throttle body, check your air filter isn't clogged and as others mentioned.. check your vacuum hoses (just pop em out, see if they're blocked, etc.

Grab a multimeter and check the resistance on all your leads (just in case)... check the gap on your spark plugs. See how you go with that :) Also, check the leads are going to the correct plugs. When did it start happening?

I was giving her a wash the other day, and checked the tranny fluid level. It was on the lower end of 'normal.' I topped up a little bit, and since its been ok :) I've had the tranny serviced little over a year ago, probably due for another one. I guess my seals must be leaking.
