Hey quick question to anyone else with an ex-cop VY or VZ, can you tell me if your interior light switch on the console lights up with the dash lights, say like the PWR button does? Not a big deal obviously, but would save me pulling apart the console for nothing. Thanks!

well it's an easy swap to go back to the white number plate surround, the chrome strip was the bit i didn't like. i like the black at the moment, but i know what you mean, looks a bit cheap.

Hi all, thought I'd upload some pics of a couple of mods I think has improved the looks of my VYII. The headlights are the ebay SS copies, and the boot was from the wreckers, cheaper than getting the holes from that chrome strip filled and painted - I can't believe holden bolted it on!

i had this problem too, i sprayed a bit of WD40 on the terminals of the bit that goes into the back of the headlight, worked it around a bit, and fixed it.

yep, RTS = live axle

look on the console under ya radio - the badge will either say RTS or IRS, that'll save you looking under the car...

Hi, can anyone tell me how to remove the exterior trim on the B pillars? There are 2 plugs on the bottom, but just wondering if I have to get at anything from the inside? Any help appreciated!

i know, i know, the brace is a bit ricer (or wanky as my mate just helpfully described it). but i cling to the fact that holden went on to use em in VY SS i think. anyway, $180 for the wank brace.

I had 15" x 6" silver wheels on my old VH. they were 43P offset and fitted fine with 215 x 60 tyres.

Hi, wondering if anyone has removed the 4 studs that the plastic engine cover fastens to (VS ECOTEC). I've decided to leave the plastic cover off so thought I'd remove the studs too. If anyone's done this - how did you do it? I've tried vise-grips on one (that only removed half the stud...)

aren't they a different size? i thought the VZ tail lights were bigger (taller) than the VY?

i have the same problem - fitted a redback to my vs live axle. i intend on fitting FE2 springs/shocks soon, so will see if that fixes it or makes it worse, but in the meantime i've just cable tied a bit of rubber to the panhard. dodgey i know, but stops the metallic clang on the big bumps.

yeah VN's were the last in that colour. i have a val that colour, been in the family since it was a cop car. it's cool, but it's off the road now, i don't think i could go back after the 'comfort' of the vs - like an aircon that works and pwr steering!

hmmm, maybe sagging engine mounts explains why my cat is hanging low at the moment. i was hoping the HMs with the new Y piece would fix this.

thanks shaggerz. i contacted HM, they are quite helpful actually, apparently their flange supplier has changed the way they make them and some sets have one of each. makes no defference they say, so should be ok.

could just be fluid level as stated above, or a shift solenoid may need replacing.

least with FE2 there can never be any insurance issues - it was a factory option.

re the miss - i agree with Not_An_Abba_Fan. my old car (a val, but don't hold that against me) was missing under load, changed the leads and it was fine. good place to start looking for the problem anyway.

FE2 springs are black in VS. Hope this helps...

My VS did something similar to this. Basically it was slipping on downchange then banging into gear. It was the 3rd-2nd solenoid. It can cause more damage if you don't get it seen to.

the factory spot welds seem a bit crappy, but maybe the previous owners were rough slamming the boot - i've only had the car about a year. i'll need to pull the parcel shelf out and see if there is room for some bolts, otherwise welding will be the only way. which will mean pulling out the...

anyone had this problem? one of the brackets up under the parcel shelf that the boot struts attach to has broken off. would be a pain to get rewelded and then painted, wonder if i could bolt it back on? any ideas? thanks!

I too have this problem on my VS series 1. I asked them to check it out at my last trans service and they said it was the tailshaft angles through the centre bracket. Very common and very tricky to completely fix - ie dont worry about it.

I just priced the Y piece for a VS ecotec as mine has a couple of severe dents. Aftermarket was $250 just for the part, and factory was $510 (haha) but that comes with the cat. I guess you'd be looking at around the same for a VN. So my search at wreckers continues...
