    VS serpentine/universal belt overstretched

A belt on a commodore is exactly that, a belt to run all bolt on additions like power steer, air conditioning, water pump and alternator. This belt will not effect the timing of the motor as thats operated internally by a metal chain. These belts may become stretched over time but thats...

What are the going rates on the factory fog lights. I wouldnt mind adding some myself as i live out of town by 30km's and its pretty bad roo teritory. Perhaps a nicer option than having after market driving lights? I have read somewhere they are rediculously expensive thou?? Cheers in...

    Tyres

Tyres are something you get what you pay for. Spend as much as possible and you have a fairly safe bet you have a good tyre. Budget tyres are good for day to day running but there limits are reached much sooner than a higher quality more expensive tyre. If it makes you feel any better...

Fault light came on but reports no fault

As per the owners manual, the engine light means 2 things. ECU error or transmission failure. This happened to me, light came on. pulled up to reset the computer, went out and all was fine. Next minute auto feel into heap leaving me with no forward gears and reverse on the odd occasion...

Post Pictures of your VR/VS here.

Posted this one in the stata photo section but thought i would pop it in here too. Thought it was about time for a change so felt some wheels should be the first modification. 18 x 8's, clad with 235/40R18 tyres are a good package. Looks the good too if you ask me

vr v8 how many kms have u done before problems?

Good mate of mine has a VS V8 which is the same motor as a VR. Has 219,000 on the clock and was an ex police car so is BT1 spec. He gives it a fairly hard time and its on gas too and no troubles to date. Starts first time everytime, and apart from being heavy on fuel..... Goes like a dream.

    hey

From my understanding a heavy duty clutch has a bigger spring plate to reduce clutch slip when releasing the pedal. Sort of clutch that can handle a fair floggin before it will start to slip, whether it be in a work horse or by driving like a idiot race changing and being heavy handed...

    Changing out vs water pump

No stress, 1. Loosen bolts on both power steer pump pully wheels and the water pump pulley wheel. When belt is off the nuts can then be undone with out to much greif with pully wheel spinning. 2. Remove the belt by backing off tension on tension pully. To do this use appropriate sized...

This is a 4 sale post, if your not interested in buying the sub off the gentleman who has it for sale, dont post negative comments. Its doesnt make for a very positive sales pitch, and even at 169, this one is 120 with the box so considerbale amount cheaper. I have 2 of these subs in my...

    WHich exhaust, Redback or Lukey?

No history lesson there for me. I have owned 4 mini's and they are all renowned for having lukey peformance mufflers. However, technology has come along way in the past 50 years and mufflers are getting better in quality and also better in ability in being high flow with less noise. .

    security system key

I had no idea there was a key hole in the passenger side sill? My VS stata has 2 key holes, drivers door and boot lid. Rest is keyless entry, incluiding the boot but key hole for over ride incase battery goes flat.

    WHich exhaust, Redback or Lukey?

    Adjusting Spotlight...am i been dumb?

Park you car facing a flat wall and have 22ft inbetween the car and the wall. The hot spot of the light should be at the height of the head light. Measure the distance from ground to headlight. On the wall the hot spot should be the same height up the wall (thats on low beam). Simple as...

    CV joint problems

What sort of car do you drive. I doubt it would be a commodore if it has front CV joints. Best bet with CV's is take it to a CV specialist. They know what they are doing and will be the best people to change them to save any hassles further down the track.

In 1996 they changed in the series II model to have the extra chrome around the rear tail lights, and also having statesman written in lettering from one side to the other opposed to just the badge on the lower right corner of the boot. The series II onwards also got treatment of fake wood grain...

VR Air Con/Blower won't turn off!

I cant garentee what i have written to be correct, but i am just informing you of a problem had with our old VR Statesman which sounds very similar. The certainty about the windscreen valance as apparently when the auto elec took it off, he left it off until the part arrived, leaving us...

VR Air Con/Blower won't turn off!

The problem is called a "fan amplifier" Because it is not a switch that has 4 fan speeds, it has a infinite fan speed, meaning no set fan speeds. Being Variable. The climate control module then tells the fan what speed to run. To access the unit it is under the valance??? under the...

VR Air Con/Blower won't turn off!

Almost 100% sure he got to it from inside the car as he removed the glovebox or the under dash panel on the driver side. Wasn't altered by under the bonnet. He original only dis-connected the climate so the car was still drivable with out jump starting it all the time (hence fan flattening...

    speed sensitive steering???

I was always under the impression the speed sensitive steering was only offered on the upper models such as the Berlina, Calais, Statesman and the SS. Does the CSi Lexen have climate, cruise and the 3 window trip computer? Not familiar with them, but if its gopt a toyota badge it would...

VR Air Con/Blower won't turn off!

Same problem happened with our statesman (parents VR) The problem was fixed by taking the car to an auto electrician. Its a paticular solernoid or something along those lines. It happened years ago back in 1995 so i am straining to remember. All i can suggest is take it to and auto elec...

    Which model vs

How do you set the time frame on the delay on headlights off function when you open the door..... i know newer cars have this facility, but its called "find your way home", with a delay ranging from 15seconds, to 1-2 minutes. Pretty cool. I didnt think this could be done on a VS?

    VR V6 Auto Fluid Check?

Run the engine so it is warm, well more so the auto, once the warm, firmly place on handbrake and sellect neutral. Remove dip stick and re-insert the same way you would with a engine oil dip stick. The engine must still be idling. I think it actually mentions 'How too" on the dip stick...

    Fuel cell? How big?

Fuel tank size! Can someone please tell me how big a fuel tank is in a VS Series I Statesman. The owners manual is telling me 73L, and carpoint is telling me 80L. The litres left in the tank when full full reads almost 84L, but when i fill it with the trip telling me a mere 10km till...
