    Trimatic shifter

Pulling back a gear is fine until you break something or decide you no longer want that feature. Once you have filed the gate away, there is no changing back, without replacing the entire shifter mechanism. I would be opting for the kick down or lifting the lever like normal.

What to get when PRICE$$ is a problem. But time isn't...

I can only think of one word...sacrilidge. VL's are a good looking functional car as are most models in the range. If you are looking for comfort buy a late model and just drive it, and maybe pick up a VL to rebuild it back to it's glory days look and feel. It is just my opinion but customizing...

    starting car on stands

Always ensure the stands are placed in an appropriate ans secure location, and that the wheels on the ground are chocked to prevent little accidents. Starting on stands will be fine, is the best way to find drivetrain faults and noises that are not able to be found when the car is not running.

    Unscrewed Boot spoiler (problem)

What was wrong with the boot spoiler that you needed it gone? The yellowing may need to be polished out with a stronger cutting polish, and if you are not sure how to do it properly, I would advise against playing the trial and error game, as you could easily polish the paint away to the...

Forget face detection - this Japanese car seat can tell who's sitting on it

I can see how this technology would work...not....remember some years ago, a group of car thieves were reversing sling trucks up the the rear end of cars, slipping J hooks around the diff and taking off with the cars being pulled backwards, the steering locks made it easier for them, because the...

    [QLD] Bad Fuel?

Update... So far we have removed the intake completly, and refitted with all new gaskets and seals, fired it up and the miss was still there. Figured there may be an electrical problem that was still undetected, so tried plugs, coils, DFI module, still the miss was there, hooked up the exhaust...

GMH needs funding to stay in OZ

    Identify this Transmission noise.

Would you like some cheese what that whine? That sounds pretty terminal for your gearbox/transmission. It sounds like the output shaft has lost connection to the main drive in the box, either with something having stripped out or just clean snapped, either way, it sounds like an expensive...

    [QLD] Bad Fuel?

Update... Finally my mechanic is back from holidays, so after trying a few more options on the week-end and still no luck, I took it down to him this morning to receive the bad news. The intake manifold gaskets have blown, not what I was wanting to hear and of course the standard warranty has...

Buying cars with a lot of k's

For a 19 year old car the K's are sounding a lot better than I first thought, I would still be getting an independant mechanical assessment on the car. His mechanic has a fiduciary responsibility to his client, so he is unlikely to offer up any known problems, whereas an independant mechanic is...

    Best/cheapest Victorian Interstate Couriers

I have used Fastway Couriers before with good sucess. I had them move a box of plastics 45cm x 45cm x 50cm weighing around 3 kg and it cost me $8 from Sydney to Brisbane. The only downfall was having to drop it to their depot because I wasnt an account holder.

Buying cars with a lot of k's

You dont say how old the Vitara is, if it has hone 320 000 and it is only 5 years old, that is a lot of milage, it it is 10 years old, the milage is still high but a lot more acceptable. In most cases, 15 000 to 20 000 k's per year is the accepted average, but you might want to get a mechanical...

    Dodgy Repairs through Preferred Repairers

I was Lucky...lol. I was with AAMI, what made it worse, I was a contractor for them as well, moving their VALET Cars from Assessing to repairer. Had I known at the time what was about to happen, I would have shopped around and found another policy. I had a small accident a short time later...

    Dodgy Repairs through Preferred Repairers

I had a similar incident in 2000, my car at the time was a Mazda 626 with an FE 2 litre motor. [QLD] Bad Fuel?

Bugger...that theory has been blown out the window Good luck with that idea. Out my way they just culled a Mobil and rebuilt it as a 7 Eleven, total refurbish, but they did not touch the tanks. I was under the impression, the tanks were required to be changed every so many years becvause of...

    Need a place to work

Most car washes will burr up if they catch you changing oil, it is because they are under the control of the Environmental Agencies and required to keep strict control over the amount of oil/grease that goes through their cleaning plant. Even if you are not dumping the oil they will likely fire...

    [QLD] Bad Fuel?

Update... can anyone help on this electrical problem on sv6

Grab a multi-meter and check the battery's voltage, you may find that the alternator has dropped a diode or blown out the rectifier, when they do this they go open circuit and drain the battery completely flat in around 6~12 hours. Good Luck with it, I have had a blown rectifier on my second...
