The flex fuel sensor sends a signal to the ecu so it can adjust the tune, possibly adjust to multiple different tune tables depending on the amount of ethanol it detects (though I’m not sure of the exact behaviour). And the system can handle filling different amounts of different petrol types without limitation as it’s designed to work that way.
If the system is working, which by all accounts it is as the car drives ok, then the engine lamp being lit up could be simply coincidental to the e85 fill. So the only valid approach is to check the ecu hard and pending faults for a clear indication of what the ecu sees as being a problem. Only then can one move forward.
As suggested, an obd2 device is cheap and eBay delivery can be rather quick at maybe a couple of days, so that’s the approach I’d take unless you feel a trip to the stealership is needed. With some fault codes to work with, some on this forum may be able to give you a heads up as to what the real problem may be.
