I have a 99 vt v6 commodore sedan and the other night the headlights stayed on after i turned the car off and went into work(which usually they turn off when you open drivers door)
My car didnt start straight away but left it for 15 min to get a bit of charge up and it started straight away, so i drove it home but the next day my key wouldnt unlock the car via remote so i unlocked with key but car wont start, the immobiliser is cutting in and the car isnt recognising the key? The key is only 3 months old So i dont think its that. Is my bcm faulty? Can i check this using self diagnostics? And why did these things happen all at the same time? Cheers

Thanks for the advice, i think the BCM controls the immobilizer/key? Any ideas how to check the key voltage/battery?

Update: so i did self diagnostics and got a 12 which is " no errors". I took my key back to the place i brought it and he could read my code using his machine, so now im off to a holden dealer to check what my code should be and see if that matches my key. Also i should add, when i turn the key to on the red security light does go off. Im running out of ideas so all help would be appreciated.

sounds like your BCM may have glitched
try dis-connecting car battery for 5 minutes
when you say car doesn't start, does it crank normally
what voltage is your car battery at, how old is your car battery

If the red light is going out it won't be an immobilisor issue. Could be the BCM has **** itself.

Also, as above, if the voltage on the battery is down it will do weird things.

key battery is a small flat one should be close to a CR2032

a volt meter is used to check the voltage . making contact on each side ... one side is marked +

The key fob battery ONLY operates the remote door/boot locks.
It has nothing to do with starting the car.

My fob battery was flat for 8 months and I could still start the car.
The only things I couldn't do, was to remotely open the doors or boot.
