Hi Pete,
On the front wheels the sensors are part of the hub itself. The wiring from the hubs goes past the strut mountings in the engine bay and there are white connectors there where you should be able to take some readings with a multimeter. For example, if it is an open circuit it would indicate a problem.
There is a black ABS box under the bonnet drivers side with brake lines running to it from the master cylinder. This is where the pump, valves, etc would be. Not sure how you would test it, so probably best to test the wheel sensors first.
