Super stoked with how these came up!
I cleaned up the edges of the black bit. Surprised myself.

Only had a couple of hours tonight to do anything.

Reassembled the wiper assembly.
Now all black galv paint.

New bolts and nuts.

Used high temp bearing grease in the ball joints.

Pressed them back on with the slide grips. Wrapped the part in a towel to protect everything. Pressed it back on. The grease squirts out a bit. Wiped up with a cloth.

Got the bonnet switch back on. I painted up the plate it mounts to. New screw. (Everyone loves a new screw)
Tested continuity of the earth with the multimeter through the screw and elsewhere on the body. (No battery connected)

I think tomorrow, after work, I’ll get some clear plastic to make a template for the sound deadener on the back panel of the cab.

Ahh. I get the clear plastic for nothing as well, from work. I will use cardboard for something else later and I’ll get that from work as well.

Only a bit of time today in between doing dad things.

Wire brushed the wiper bolts. Then galv painted them. I find a sheet of card board is great. Poke the bolts through and spray.
Will use this method for other bolts as I get ready to put everything back together.

Wire wheeled the corrosion spots in the wiper and HVAC air intake area.
Here is the air intake which has some cardboard sitting in there (waiting for the Navara cabin filter.)

Cleaned out all the bits left after wire wheel on the drill.

Next task, fully mask up the wiper area and get grey cold galv, followed by black galv paint. Then clean up the threads to make sure the motor earths ok.

Also cleaned off all the caked up grease on the bonnet spring. Disassembled it, scrubbed it. Now a coat of grey cold galv in a “box spray booth” and will do black after.
Looks like a dick bolt holds the bonnet closed.

Today, got the roof lining insulation sorted.

Made a sandwich of foam and underlay. I used these materials because I had them already, so no cost other than glue.

The forward area has thin felt underlay jute where the mirrors are.
Also the strip across the centre has to be thinner where the roof brace is.
Also the very rear has only a bit of room so a thin few patches go on to help with sound.

I scrubbed the two seals from the wiper cowl/shroud. I used a scotchbrite pad.
They came up like new! Like. New.
These go against the windscreen and the other is the seal against the bonnet. Haven’t even treated them with aerospace 303 yet.

Oh. I also did the cabin filter.

re: https://forums.justcommodores.com.au/threads/vt-vz-cabin-filter-mod.208683/

I bought a twin pack for a Nissan Navara.
3FB4FDA5-A55E-483C-A9B8-418288975D63.jpeg

I cut 20mm of the long edge with a hacksaw.

Then pulled the off cut filter from the edge and replied the edge back on with a hot glue gun.

Then got the foam across the back and sides.
Seals up quite well. Might get a soft strip of foam across the front too.

I made a bit of a mess of the back edge. I will redo the second one a bit better, now I know what to do.

(That’s masking over the windscreen)
(the cardboard is a cover to stop paint going down into the fan and HVAC while I paint it all.
Thinking about getting some mesh and cutting and folding a new modified grill to go over the top.

On another note, I bought some push fit clips for the car on eBay. Got some Machter clips, bag of 100. They said they were for VY, VZ, and VE.

They did not fit. Too big. The seller wanted me to change my feedback. No refund until feedback changed. “You wot mate?”
Like fk that’s happening.

Got a refund from eBay through proper channels.

Found some others at a good enough price from this seller https://ebay.com.au/usr/jasnic28

If you are looking for clips for our Commodores, you want a 7.5mm clip.

Some sellers say an 8mm clips fit and they won’t.

In reference to the two hole mod, I fitted up the air box with the headlight out and it’s getting air pretty close to the headlight.
