Hi
I’m getting some work done to my partners VE, have just got a custom built tailshaft made and getting diff upgraded with trutrac. But I’ve been told the main shaft in the gear box has a run out. I don’t really know a lot about cars and not being given a lot of info from the shop. Not sure if I’m better off getting him a new gearbox and if so do I do a standard one tr6060 currently or is there a way to upgrade it? They are telling me just to pull gear box out and assess it will cost me $1000 plus extra for any repairs or at that point decide if I just get a new one. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

353kw at wheel, just about to put in custom performance tailshaft and diff upgraded with truetrac and getting 3.9 ratio. Have already upgraded clutch with twin plate ceramic when we got cam, otr, exhaust done.

but now I’m being told I have to done work to the gearbox as well because of the runout??

I’ve been told by the shop the the main shaft in gearbox has a runout and that I either have to get a new gearbox or get this one repaired but he’s telling it can be more expensive to repair as just for them to look at it properly it’s $1000 and extra for what ever is wrong with it, he’s telling me I should just get a new one ‍♀️ And I really don’t understand much about cars

So there's something that's now out of tolerance internally or something. Is it making a noise or is there some other symptom that is making this guy think this?

What kind of work is being done?

From quickly googling, "runout" seems to be something around alignment with the bell housing.

I have no idea. It’s at a diff and gearbox specialist. I put it in to get the diff, gear selector and tailshaft repaired, he’s then come back and said about the runout and said we can leave it which is a risk or get a new gearbox

Depends how much you trust them and how much money you have. Run-out essentially means it runs a bit off center and will probably cause a slight wobble in the tailshaft. Did you feel a lot of vibration under your bum before?
