Pretty sure Crow lifters are Johnson. There's only a handful of manufacturers globally and they're all pretty decent. The rest are just reboxed

Not all lifters are equal. I fitted Nason and they were junk. Rattled and galled up leaving filings in the oil and under the manifold.

Nason seem to be the fish John West should have rejected but they sold anyway

OP as Immortality said your best bet is to get a pushrod length tool. A good one like from Comp. You can figure out the lifter travel by measuring zero lash and very carefully to plunger base. Then you want to be somewhere right in the middle

When I checked mine most had 1/2 to 3/4 of the turn. I shaved 10thou and they were still fine. I had Mace rockers and rods to suit. I could have just bolted it all up but I had a rattle I was chasing, so had to pull the covers off and check the preload on each one.

I'd take Morts advice over mine. He is a lot more knowledgeable than me on engine building.
