Is a liter bigger than a litre?
On a less flippant note ... ... what you said about 12L/100km isn't likely, he's using his car less than we use ours, and ours is never going to get as low as an average of 12 while we do all our driving as locally (in the 'burbs & crossing busy streets) as we do. Basically, most usage is weekend shopping (the shops are a half-hour walk) or my wife's run to work & picking me up or dropping me off on the way in bad weather (she works a 45 minute walk from home).
We're seeing more like about 16 to 17 litres per 100, and that's actually near identical to our fairly-good-nick VS moo in the same usage (which incidentally averaged about 7L/100 for highway trips such as Sydney to Canberra return, or from Sydney up to the Hunter Valley & back - I don't expect the VF to manage that ).
