Ok so after spending just under a $1000 getting the rear main seal replaced in my Gen III I've still got oil dripping from the rear of the engine, only a fraction of what it was, but now it seems even more annoying, "almost fixed but not quite" kind of thing, So it's looking like its the sump gasket and I'm told that's going to cost me even more than the rear mains to replace (I do most repairs myself but these jobs without a hoist or a pit, no thanks). Is replacing the sump gasket really as much of a mission as I'm told it is?

Did they replace the seal or the whole rear plate?

The subframe has to be dropped to get the sump out to reseal.

Make sure you don't have a leak coming from the oil pressure sensor located at the rear, top, middle of the engine block. You will need to use a mirror and torch to see it properly.

If you do decide to go a new sump seal consider getting a modded LS3 oil pump in there cause hey how many times do you have the k frame dropped.
