I recently had a look under my car and have noticed a leak which I think is at the tailshaft centre bearing (Correct me if I am wrong - not an expert in this area and my terminology may be incorrect)? Is this a major issue - expensive exercise or just a seal replacement? Any advice would be appreciated. Photos aren't great.

That is coming from the grease in the CV joint.

Is this an issue - would the seal need to be replaced and re-greased? I'm trying to find some diagrams of this to get a better understanding.

it looks like someone has changed the centre bearing and put too much grease in it if its not making any vibrations I'd wipe it clean and see what happens
Not making any vibrations at the moment however I'll keep an eye on it. It hasn't been altered or attended to by anyone in many years so I'm not sure if its the beginning of a problem or cracked seal? My knowledge is limited on these tailshaft issues.

It a sign the C.V is starting to fail....

To solve the problem it will need to be replaced.....

How do I know...Have had 4 fail with my VC and that's how they started.....

Age is the cause....

There isn't so much a seal in the traditional sense, rather a dust/grease boot. See

Hopefully the dust/grease boot is just cracked and the grease is just leaking. Seems to be oil or something more liquid than grease because it seems to be spread either side of that boot both left and right?
