I have seen people selling "manual starters" for much higher prices than auto ones, and recall posts on this sight of guys having dramas with them and i guess i'm about to find out.
as per the last photo the distance from the crank snout to the ring gear appears to be the same. Same tooth count and the starter bolts to the block too. Leaves two possibilities, snagging on the bellhousing? will bolt it to a bare block asap - or does it hit the step on the outside edge of the flywheel (third photo) ??
That brings me to the clutch. The smaller disc and cover are good old HOLDEN 6 for three on the tree all synchro box/ M20 6cyl. SAME SPLINE
If i redrill the flywheel for the smaller cover i can turn off the step and lose some weight where it is the heaviest when rotating-same benenifit with the smaller cover moving the rotating mass closer to the centre
Trade off - the finger height on the smaller cover is about 7mm lower - will make left foot braking easier by dropping the pedal a bit but wont have the same travel, HMM also lose some clamping force, HMM
Thoughts ???
