I finally worked it out , and thanks to 426 CUDA for your sensible reply , as for the rest of you , asking why I want to leave the car with the motor running , well dear brain surgeons , simply to get out and open my gate , with the headlights on , is that a reasonable explanation , or did you all think I wanted to leave the motor running and the air con on , so I could go shopping at Chadstone ?

Switch car off and lock it and while walking away use the remote start. Car will run with doors locked and cannot be driven off if someone opens the door without the key.

If the remote start is used, dont the doors always remain locked until the key carrier returns to unlock them?

If youre only getting out to open your gate then try leaving the door ajar

Which is what I do when filling up other wise the fuel cap locks and I can't close it

Just push the locking tongue in with your finger, then close the cap.

Or unlock the car to shut the fuel cap. I just push the shaft back in to close the cover.
