you can fit any brand of 2 din head unit theres a lot to choose from and look at online reviews
but this is the best time to get one because of all the specials

I guess my most important question is "can any double din touch screen head unit be programmed to accept the display inputs of the HVAC"? Or does it need something special? Hope that make sense. (I'm so far out of my comfort zone with all this new tech)

From what I can tell, yes because the screen in the HVAC part has the info constantly displayed. That is a step better than S2 VE and S1.

There will be difficulties for Rear Seat Entertainment systems. (Some SS, Calais, Statesman) Not sure how these can interface with an aftermarket system.

Also rear climate control on long wheel base models.
