Fark. I've made up some rubber isolators (earth strap across the rubber) that sit between the block and knock sensor for my soon to be budget turbocharged v6 auto VY. Didn't realize the ECU was that smart. Back to the drawing board.

Yeah that should go well. Until coolant starts pissing out from where the knock sensors used to be haha

you'd have to be an L67 mouthbreather to do something stupid like that!

boosted vt v6
Threw this on the dyno today to check afrs. Had to drop the boost a tad to 14psi and is still border line too lean. Only made 236rwkw at around 4000rpm, power comes on strong but at full boost was misfiring badly shaking the whole motor. Probably needs new leads/plugs haha. Tried a run without any water injection which only made 210rwkw and was pinging massively.

You need to dyno run an auto in 3rd. That is bogus my friend

You've done a nice job on the manifolds and turbo set up so why don't you just fork out and get it tuned? It will actually make near on 270rwkw and live forever if you do. The way you're going at the moment is just total missed potential..........seriously. It's a good set up

Cars run on computers these days, not engines. Sort that out and watch it all come together! Fun times:bomb:

Maybe, just maybe, if you had the setup tuned correctly by some one that uses a knock box, then they should be able to see what is real knock and what is noise that the knock sensors are picking up. That way you can adjust the knock settings to suit so they don't go pulling timing for no reason. Seems a far better solution than stuffing around trying to cheat the sensors.

Could not agree more. He has spent the time and effort to get this far and then cheaps out on a proper tune, just does not make sense.
These things don't like to rattle (detonate) very often. You will only have it happen so many times before a piston falls apart and takes the whole motor out.

Get it tuned by someone that knows what they are doing and it will last for ages, just look at what Delcowizzard gets out of his rigs.

come on man

the total build cost so far is probably $500 = $100 RWC + $400 rego

vt was probably gifted to old mate, turbo hardware was probably left over from his Falcon projects

(no offence intended turbo_will, just trying to make a point)

say the car was his daily (which it isn't) and he planned on keeping it a long time (which he doesn't) then a custom dyno tune utilizing factory ecu and it's features would make more sense

sounds like the only reason old mate did this project was to test viability of a Ecotec turbo kit for VT-VY... and by turbo kit most likely the bolt on parts only, i.e. not the tune. getting a good 1/4 time would help sell the kits, and he's managed that with what - a boost valve & water/meth injection.

a custom dyno tune utilizing factory ecu would cost $500ish(?), at which point the dyno tuner would want a map sensor installed ($100ish), larger injectors ($300ish) & a larger fuel pump ($150ish). all of a sudden he's probably doubled the investment in the car

i can't defend doing power runs on a lean engine though haha
