- VF Calais V6 MY17, VX Calais V6 2000
Hi everyone,
I've been looking at wheel options for my VF Calais. I think Holden could have put a bit more effort into providing an interesting and appealing wheel design for the standard Calais. The standard wheels are too detailed and extremely hard to clean. Given their silver/grey colour, they dont stand out all too well on a Nitrate Silver car.'
I managed to try a set of Calais V 19"wheels on the car. These looked great however they greatly reduced the ride comfort and hardened up the steering. The main reason I chose the Calais over the SV6 was the suspension; ride and handling. I read recently that the Evoke and the standard Calais have the softest ride in the entire VF range due to the FE1.5 suspension.
So I've ruled out 19 inch wheels due to ride comfort and the cost of replacing low profile tyres.
Yesterday I tried out 2 wheels from my father's SV6 sedan on the driver's side of my car. I wasn't sure how these would look on the Calais given it's luxury looks and lack of body kit. I couldn't find any pictures on the internet of Calais'with these style wheels. It's my only option given I'm restricted to 18 inch wheels and tyres.
Anyway, here's some before and after photos...
I also recently added the chrome mirror covers, venetian shades and Calais Director lip spoiler. I tried the black bonnet protector however it looks like a giant monobrow
Personally I think it gives the car a slightly sporty feel whilst retaining the Calais style. I think the back looks better than the front especially with the SSV style chrome tail lights.
Thoughts, comments and even additional suggestions appreciated. Or hopefully this might help other members who are having the same idea.
Or maybe I should have bought the SV6
