P1028? Was there a letter prefix before it?

There is a thermostat (which requires gearbox removal to replace) and there is a coolant temp sensor. Very cheap and easy to replace.

If the car is not reaching running temp, the coolant sensor could be faulty.

The thermostat could be stuck open.

Try third or second hand CTS,(New means, never been used, doesn't mean working),

Make sure cooling fan isn't running as soon as the engine starts.

Make sure proper mixture of red coolant in the system.

If all fails, make sure thermostat not STUCK open..

Make sure there is Thermostat in it!

if it's a V6, I would say the TS is cooked, being where its located,

Replace that first, as that will be the cheaper option.

The other thing to check, is the TS plug, as it may have a damaged terminal or similar,
I have read that a couple had weeped out of the top of the TS and had corroded one of the pins/terminals, so that was causing a resistance and triggering the MIL.
