There is an VF/WN Accessory Install Manual available in this post which may be worth downloading and reading.

Within this document, it is outlined how to do the "steering wheel package installation", presumably to add shift paddles to a wheel that doesn't have them.

What's of possible interest is the note to use tape to ensure the column electrical assembly (clock spring) remains in the top position. Also there is mention of connector colours - black to left side and to connect the spade connectors to the horn. There is also many mentions to ensure the wires are clipped correctly. Finally there is also a requirement to perform a BMC configuration and setup (though i'd expect this is to activate the paddles).

So read the doc, recheck all connections, pins, wiring cable corretly clipped in and retained.

It could be that cable crush may be an issue if the wiring was not correctly retained. Such cable crush may cause wiring shorts and be the basis of your problems. So if all else fails, buzz out the connector for continuity and check for shorts using a multimeter (obviously remove the little loom from the wheel).

Also look at the underside of the clock spring and that it is sitting correctly on the shaft, the cables routed and plugged in correctly.

Failing that, time to visit Holden Service Department and get them to check for fault codes and BMC programing...

Good luck and let us know how it pans out.

Thanks. Next step is pull the clock spring off and check to make sure it’s in properly.

I’ve checked the wires for continuity they are all good.

I did drive it today... we’ll attempt to.

The steering was slightly out (by like 1 spline) but you can’t go wrong as it only goes on one way (has 3 locating splines)

Service ESP came up and steering went stiff. Turned it off and ok was ok but steering was stiill slightly off.

Service ESP would be because steering angle has changed.

Inputs all go through the clockspring then to BCM for outputs. Are the switches on the steering wheel the same part number as the old ones?

It’s odd indeed.

In another thread How to: Change a VF steering wheel such problems that you experience have not occurred but guess it could be a clock spring issue.

Possibly connectors pushed in the wrong way but we are clutching at straws now? It’s reletively easy with some computer power connectors but less so in motor vehicles due to bettor connector design.

Ok BCM has multiple codes.

Internal malfunction.

Tried reprogramming it but it’s totally cooked now.

Getting new one tomorrow will let you know how it goes.

That's a bummer.
Any idea what may have caused it?
Hope all goes well with the new BCM.

would not have a clue. maybe just a bad coincidence or an internal issue with the controls of the new steering wheel i got.

but i dont think so because they all work. its not the wiring or anything else

Stuff happens and sometimes no one knows why.
So is it fixed yet?
