Have a re-read of this very thread mate. The VE doesnt have the filler tube as it has the 5 speed transmission.
It has a filler plug.

How to change the oil in your model, has been covered step by step by Ricey in previous pages of this thread.

what should the operating temp of the oil be after you have done the job?

what temp do you want to stay clear of?

there are several earlier threads on the VE 6-speed auto.
As I understand it, they change the tranny fluid by removing the pan.

Yep, I can confirm this.
(I Just completed the Deep Pan, Wide Mouth Filter mod on mine today).

Just in case this helps anyone, the filler plug is located on the Drivers side of the transmission, just above around the middle of the Pan.

I'm confused as the how to correctly check fluid level on my ve SS 6 speed auto, trans specialist bloke said to me undo the drain plug on the bottom sump and it should trickle out of full but Wont it all drain out if I remove the plug ? Do I just unscrew the drain plug a little bit or completely remove it ?

I would say he meant the rubber plug half way up the trans side on the drivers side as pictured above. I got a quote from holden the other week to change it and it was $320 (for a 6 spd) which was very surprising for a dealer. I think the pain with doing it yourself would be getting the car up high enough and level to fill and check it.
Zerone_V how much were the parts and oil to do it yourself at home?
Im at the point where mine needs doing and am weighing the options up.

It's not a drain plug, it's to check the fluid level.
The trans is filled via a plug up on the body on the drivers side until fluid runs out the hole in the pan. Some people put an extra .5 litre.
I run the deep pan from a Corvette with a Cadillac wide mouth filter.

Thanks side car for confirming that I'll give it a crack I feel stupid now as I didn't think the fluid won't drain out with the car running will be mostly in the gearbox :)
