    key program issue, missing radio

I may be wrong, but requiring the radio to be connected sounds like a load of toss to me. Someone will correct me, but the key is paired/coded to the ECU which operates your immobilizer. The transponder in your key is what communicates/broadcasts the code to the ECU, which in turn disarms it...

change cat converters to strait pipes

VR304 is right. Won't throw an error as the VY's are pre cat O2 sensor. I had my cats removed and straight pipes installed (legal here in New Zealand). It gives the engine a slight burble sound and a tad noisier, but nothing drastic or noticeable unless you're listening for it. The odor of...

Vy or Vz for first car?

I second all the other statements to stick with the VY (3.8L), or save up and get a looked after LS1. Both are unbreakable, easy to work on, and the parts are relatively common.

Steering Wheel Shudder while cruising @ 80k

Thank-you all for your responses, it's really appreciated. No - it wasn't Midas. It was Mag and Turbo Tyre (automotive shops bit scarce in my area). I've contacted them again for comment. I decided to take a bit of time tonight, and get underneath. Passenger side is fine, worn sway bar link...

Steering Wheel Shudder while cruising @ 80k

Anyone else seem to concur this could be the culprit? Holden quoted me like $900 for OEM parts.

Steering Wheel Shudder while cruising @ 80k

It did indeed seem odd to me as well, hence why I thought I'd get second opinion here.

Steering Wheel Shudder while cruising @ 80k

Took to a tyre/auto's shop, they popped it up on a hoist and noticed the following: Lots of play in Driveshaft Centre Hanger Bearing Cracks in Driveshaft Coupling Apparently causing the entire engine to judder around, affecting the steering. Just wanted to corroborate this with you guys as...

Steering Wheel Shudder while cruising @ 80k

Cool, thanks for all the solutions guys, appreciated. I think I'll just end up taking it to a tyre shop here, and getting them to take a look. So I basically should be getting them to assess: Another Wheel Alignment Front Suspension Front Hubs/Bearings Rims for Buckles It is just really odd...

Clean a Hazy Instrument Cluster (Howto Guide)

HOWTO: I was sick of my Statesmans instrument cluster being hazed and ugly from improper cleaning/old age. So I decided to shine it up a little. Instructions below: 1. You'll need two products. Both can be purchased from Supercheap Auto. They were around $20 each NZD. Mothers Plastic...

Steering Wheel Shudder while cruising @ 80k

Hi Uniacidz, I've considered it, but generally I would expect vibrations at speeds other than just this range (70-80) with a buckled rim. The rims I'm using are 18's, can be seen in my display pic. Not sure of the brand, but apparently they weren't cheapies.

Steering Wheel Shudder while cruising @ 80k

Hi All, 2003 WK Statesman LS1 I get a frustrating wheel shudder which starts to occur at around 70-80k's. As soon as you go over this (say 100), the shudder disappears. Happens while cruising, with throttle and also while braking (but slightly less). Has been like the entire time I've had...

WK Statesman Catback - in NZ???

I know lots sell for the VT-VZ commodore, but haven't found any for the Statesman. Hawkes Bay area. Happy to pay for shipping around NZ tho.

WK Statesman Catback - in NZ???

Hey man. Have been in touch with these guys. They're great but only sell stainless steel, and want $1500 for just the catback.

WK Statesman Catback - in NZ???

Hi Everyone, I've got a 2003 WK Statesman V8 LS1, over here in tiny New Zealand. I've been trying to source a catback exhaust to fit, but retailers here simply don't really stock them. I've found a few on eBay which look promising, but the shipping to NZ is often around $400-500AUD; which is...

    WK Statesman Heater/Fan Issue

After removing the glovebox and a small metal frame, I was able to remove the Fan Resistor. The small metal tab had unsoldered off due to heat. Resoldered this, heaters now working fine. Have attached a picture :)

    WK Statesman Heater/Fan Issue

Some external reading suggests this is most likely to do with the Fan Motor/Resistor located behind the glove box. Because the Statesman is equipped with Climate Control, I've heard that the resistor is slightly different, and likely has to be replaced rather than repaired. Is this correct...

    WK Statesman Heater/Fan Issue

Hi All, Got a 03 WK Statesman. The heater seems to have only either two operations that actually do something Off, or HIGH. There is no inbetween (ie. Fan on 1,2,3). Pressing the FAN up and down buttons adds an extra notch to the indicator on the central display, but things only actually...

    VF Rims on WK Statesman

Hi All! Just purchased an 03' 5.7 Stato, it's got rims on it but I'm thinking of swapping them out. Any idea if the VF rims are the same stud pattern? I've seen a photo that would suggest so, but thought I'd check regardless.

VX Water Leaking into Drivers Footwell!

Hello All! What a wet end to the week. Go to get in today, low and behold the floor is soaked. With a grimace I get in, twist my head and see that all the wiring, BCM etc whatever else is under there is also soaked and dripping. The car still starts and works fine but whew it's stressing me...

VX II Giving Weird Error and Chime?

Soooooooo basically an ambiguous error message. Take to holden and charge me $150 just to plug it in and say oh was just unexploded fuel causing it. Ok to keep driving you think or Play it safe and take to holden?

VX II Giving Weird Error and Chime?

Hello All, My VX II Acclaim Commodore 2002 has been doing something weird recently. Today was the second time it's done it, else it starts fine? When i turn the car on, the security LED flashes like nuts, the Traction Control and Airbag light turn on and the car makes a chime similar (but...

vt commodore turn key some times nothing happens sometimes it fires then stops

Having this exact issue at the moment, like other's have suggested very likely to be the key fob not making complete connection with the BCM/PCM through the terminal on the ignition. Easy fix is buy a new key and clean the terminal with terminal cleaner.

vy 3.8 nov 2002 commodore ute nov02 temp sender switch - dash reading

You should get a HOT reading, as the sender simply acts as a resistor, and no resistance results in dial defaulting to max.

Car started to over heat ??? very strange

Has been said, but the Thermostat won't read the temperature if theres an air lock which will result in the spike in your temperature gauge. It's easy enough to replace. $30 from Holden including the gasket. Good idea to do a block flush and coolant change while you're at it.

Recently Picked Up This VT Manual

Definitely sounds like it needs all the coil packs replaced. They're rather expensive to buy but you'll notice the difference. Obviously do your sparkies and leads if you haven't done them within 10,000K's. I just buy the ones from Holden but there's a separate thread full of arguments about...

Key stuck in ignition and won't turn to "on" position

Hello, You said the key was forcefully pushed past the steering lock? Usually if the steering wheel is in a certain position it will lock the key in. Is the steering still locked? If it is try releasing the tension on it and trying the key again. If getting desperate you could try...

    VX S2 Factory Alarm Problem

Is starting to sound like a BCM related issue, though it could also be a simple relay screwing things up, or wire shorting somewhere. Try swapping the relay with one of the other relays from the board with the same number on it (pretty sure the primary horn is the exact same relay). You're...

    Broken Thermostat?

Thanks Guys, Did a complete flush of the cooling system today (instructions following a search), was a hassle of a job but got there after a bit of swearing. New thermostat and gasket in so hopefully that solves the problem. Cost me $30 all up from Holden dealer which is pretty reasonable, I...

    Broken Thermostat?

Hey Guys, My VX Acclaim 2002 Series II has been doing something that worried me at first. Was randomly driving and got the beeping frantically and 'hot!!!' on the dashboard display, looked at the thermo gauge and it was just below the redline level. Pulled over and turned the car off...

VX - Holden Center Wheel Caps

Hey Team! There were a few similar threads but nothing of exact nature. I've currently got ROH 235/45 17's on my VX Commodore, as pictured below. They've just got the boring ROH center caps on them at the moment. I reckon it would look much nicer with the Holden Logo in there. I've been...

Installing Microphone - Wire through A Pillar?

Heya! I mentioned earlier, it was because the microphone that I bought had a really short cable. Was forced to put it right next to the A pillar rather than the RVM simply because I didn't have enough cable.

Installing Microphone - Wire through A Pillar?

Hey All! Did this today to success. NutCrackers instructions work perfectly as usual. I actually ran out of cable length (my own fault), so instead ran the wire a completely different way. Removed the fuse panel cover and ran it through around under the steering column. Removed the driver...

Installing Microphone - Wire through A Pillar?

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh I think I get you now. I just looked up how to remove the glove box. So once i've got the wire run under the center console into the passengers side the loom should be visible when I remove the glove box and center console trim. It makes sense now. Final question. When I'm...

Installing Microphone - Wire through A Pillar?

Grrr getting tired of this now Got the driver side vent and windshield trim off. I have no idea where I'm meant to push the wires through to get them to the head unit area. Everything looks blocked off. I removing the glove box to give it a go from the other side but can't get the globe box...

Installing Microphone - Wire through A Pillar?

Awesome thanks once again nut cracker. I've changed my mind. I don't think there's enough length on the mic to run it from the rear view mirror, so I'm going to mount it just above the right A pillar cover on the drivers side. You mentioned difficulty running it under the center console...
