They're different engines, different transmissions, your friend is full of ****, probably help to not overfill the engine with oil, fix the vacuum leak. Don't you blokes bathe in oil and petrol over there??
Just drive the car and enjoy it.

Lowest I've got my ve ss to was 7.5l/100km but that was at 80km/h in 6th. Usual highway driving at 110 with aircon gives me 10.5l/100km

I can only suggest doing what people have said previously

I have 07 VE SS 6.0 L98 with the 6 speed auto, I get about 14.4ltr around town and 12.5 on hwy. I like to "feed" it though lol....or as my Dad says, "your dam boots must be heavy son" lol.
