I remember people running one oil had sludging problems from it(not enough detergents) think it was penrite or nulon.

I;ve always used magnatec or edge in my cars and no sludging

Penrite, will NEVER use it... LS1, oil change & flush every 10,000km & 67,000km @ the time of this pic.

I was midly interested before you said Mangtec. Theres a reason is 20 bucks a bottle. Its for Ecotecs and Buicks not worth servicing.

*inb4 someone has access to the trade mangtec which is completely different

Really strange that Penrite was used for this. Did you have a look at it before? Surely it wasnt this bad.

When was the pic taken? Penrite right now are the industry leaders and have stepped up their game considerably in the last 5 years. Castrol has really dropped their ball, theyve sat on the haunches of Edge for to long and Penrite and Nulon are both ahead of them.

Yep, agreed they have come a long way and yes it was ~7-8 years ago now... but I will NEVER use Penrite when there are far better oils for at the same cost/price or just a few dollars more.

Yep that's it

I've always used Castrol and never a issue, but service intervals are critical and depend on usage. I car that does small trips and 5000kms a year needs more frequent oil changes than say a taxi.

I like penrite alot.

You can't really blame all of that on a type of oil. Although it may contribute, it's a lack of proper servicing and maintenance that causes it. If there were that many problems with penrite, there would be no way that it would have the great reputation it has today.

Yea i only ever used Penrite and Nulon in all my cars and over the years ive had no issues, no sludge or buildup.

Only ever run Castrol or nugget cheap oils in cars i dont care about like padock bashers.

Worst sludge creating oil ive ever seen is Castrol GTX and GTX2, 5,000km and its done already going sludgy, any more KM it sludges up like a Vietnamese whores box on $5 Tuesday

Let me be clear... I'm not here to change any ones mind on what brand of oil to use in their vehicles... use whatever you like.

The original pic was my mates 2003 VY Clubby LS1, bought new, after the first oil change @ 5,000km he switched to Penrite and as stated @ the time of that pic(67,000km) and it's rooted.

Here is a pic of my 2001 VX Clubby internals @ 120,000km, about 4years ago, fed nothing but Mobil 1 all it's life and serviced at the same intervals as my mates VY... make up your own minds.
