Wow

Big change from the VX

I run 80w 140 in the rear as per supercheap

The reason I asked was a VX manual takes 70w 75 as per supercheap

Yeah same trans oil as VX then. I'm not sure what the M75 had in the old ute but it didn't like Nulon 140 LSD mineral, that gear made the LSD make woop, woop noises. After the rebuild the trans tech put in some trick full syn and the woop, woop noise never came back. Trans tech said he puts in the trick syn oil to stop that noise, from the mineral gear breaking down.

I use 80w 140 Penrite Pro gear, the old M80 loves that stuff

M80 is similar to M75. Full syn is the go, from what I have been told. Even in the old 4 speed auto full syn is better than DEX III. Conflicting info on the VE diff, YouTube vids reckon GM states 90/140 full syn, earlier post in this thread suggests 140, yet Penrite site say 75/85 ,full syn and no mention of additive According to diff tech in Adelaide Penrite have additive suitable for VE diff. Too much conflicting info, but Penrite also recommends 5w engine oil, whereas I'd be more comfortable with a 10w on a 200k engine.

One thing is for sure is I don't go by anything in the hand book. If I did, I'd be having 15k oil changes, Dex III in the trans, which is apparently sealed for life and same with the diff, just with gear oil instead of Dex.....

Penrite recommended everything from 5-10-15w 30-40-50 for a old gen 3, I use 10w-50 myself

Hell, in the end, modern oils are pretty sweet, and a 5w may actually be better than a 10 or 15w during cold start

As long as the additives are in there you really cannot go wrong

But like everything, if you like playing test and tune you might find something that performs best for your application

In saying this, without an actual oil analysis your just guessing and going off feel and noise

When engine oil alone is $120 I won't be doing too many tests. I will just go 10w 40 in either Nulon or Penrite and change it every 10k. I have my trans oil in the shed. I'm just stumped on the diff oil as I'm hearing many varied opinions.
