I didn’t think of the lights, everything responds to the door as it usually should except the radio doesn’t switch off… I get key left in car reminders ect when opening door so it’s registered that I’ve opened it.

then it is not the door sensor so i doubt replacing that part will have any effect.

if disconnecting the battery for 5~10 minutes does not fix it then it might be a software fault within the mylink or the bcm.
something is not sending or receiving the command for the radio to shut down when the door is opened but something else does not seem right here...

now you mentioned before that the radio does shut down after a while/10 mins or so but you also said your battery is going flat so this might actually point to a deeper issue
if the radio does switch off after a while but the vehicles battery is going flat then the radio is not the culprit because it did switch off but what might be happening is that the vehicle is not going into its "sleep mode" where it shuts everything down to draw as little power as possible from the battery.
this symptom could point to something being wrong with the bcm.

i would get the battery load tested to make sure it is good because a defective battery can still work for the most part but not hold charge properly
dodgy batteries in the vf can cause a wide array of issues, if the battery is 5+ years old just replace it.

if the battery was not the issue then get a parasitic draw test done on the vehicle, this type of test will show how much power is being drawn from the battery at different stages of the vehicles operating modes and it will show if the vehicle is actually entering its sleep mode properly.

if the vehicle does not enter its sleep mode then get the bcm checked out, there could be a software update for it or it might be faulty but if it was me this would be my last step.

When you say the battery is going flat, do you mean you're still able to start the car but the cranking sounds like a bad battery ... or are you replacing the battery regularly?

If it's the slow cranking thing, replacing the battery might even fix the radio-staying-on problem. Batteries getting to the end of their life seem to cause all sorts of weird electrical issues in VF's.

If you're replacing the battery regularly then that's a different deal.
I actually checked the battery just before things f*n the original that was brought with it didn’t even realise as I don’t go to the boot for battery just use the points at the front so I’m guessing battery being a dud could cause other faults?

Just did a load test man it’s a dud… thank you all for the replies hindsight I should’ve checked battery first but the symptoms I thought pointed to actuator. Cheers legends

replace it and see how you go, if it does fix the issues let us know if you can for others that will probably end up having the same issue.

Will do man, getting replaced tomorrow. I’ll let yas know how it goes
Also ensure the new battery is fully charged before being installed into the vehicle as VE/VF could do funny things with new 1/2 charged batteries.

Why is this, because in the VE the firmware was updated to resolve some (not all) logic issues around charging where new 1/2 charged batteries couldn’t be fully charged by the the vehicle. Unfortunately, supposedly, the VE firmware update didn’t resolve all charge issues

You’d assume they learnt from the VE and carried such updated smart charge logic to VF but regressions do occur in software

I'll add something else to this! Id the car auto and are you placing the car in park? I noticed one time with my first VF that I was getting an oil change and the car was in N while up on the hoist and the radio stayed on for more than 10 minutes. I'm not sure if I opened the door or not but I have mentioned previously if you wanted to go to the drive in with the VF, Don't place the car in park and your radio stays on. It could be the switch in the gear selector

I tried parking in Neutral to get the radio to stay on more than it's stupidly-short limit, didn't work for me. :(

Hey all just an update,
The new battery so far is going strong the 10 minute timer is working as it should and stopping the new battery from dying… the door isn’t registering as being opened as I’ve noticed a few things that should happen when u open the door not working.
I’m guessing the old battery wasn’t strong enough for the 10 minute timer on the radio due to it not realising the doors open and to turn off.
Thank u all for your help much appreciated :)

If the door being opened is still not being registered by the BCM, even with a new battery, and things that should occur aren’t occurring because of this, then the new battery may still drain as things that should be shut off may not be shut off.

Such BCM issues will still drain the new battery but because the new battery currently has 100% of its new capacity, it’s less noticeable… So it may just take longer to drain the battery to a level where it’s a problem, but drain it will if the door switch isn’t being detected.

Draining a lead acid battery below a certain threshold (12.4V) isn’t good for battery life as it starts to hard sulfate and if it drains below 10V then the plates starts to hard sulfate much much quicker. Hard sulfation can’t be reversed and coats the lead plates which results in loosing battery capacity (where your 700CCA, 120Ahr battery becomes something much less)…

Best get the state of your locks and the BCM messages that fly around the CAN bus checked by a specialist who knows (some dealers know, others are clueless)…
